The Delhi and NCR are land locked on all four sides and are far away from seas. The Delhites enjoys extreme type of continental climate with very hot summers to chilling cold winters with little rains in monsoon season. The temperature of Delhi varies from 45 degrees in summers to 4 degrees in winters. Summers are long, from early April to October, with approximate average temperature as 38.5 degree celcius. In summers the heat wave is immense and adequate precaution has to be taken before going out in the hot weather.
Delhi receives some rain in monsoon season which lasts from July to October but climate is extremely humid, giving birth to seasonal disease like dengue, malaria, conjunctivitis etc. From September onwards climate improves and reaches its best in October to December. Weather in December and January is very cold. The Weather worsens towards December end and in January due to dense fog which sometime results in delayed or cancelled flights. The cold wave from the Himalayan region makes winter climate very chilly.
The best climate to visit Delhi is during the spring seasons of February to April and August to November. The bloom season of February and March make Delhi colorful. This time of the year brings orangeery on the face of Delhi.
The annual mean temperature is 25 °C (77 °F); monthly mean temperatures range from 14 °C to 33 °C (58 °F to 92 °F). The average annual rainfall is approximately 714 mm (28.1 inches), most of which is during the monsoons in July and August.
